Loved in New Zealand, Denmark and sold in bulk to a specialty baker in Singapore who uses it in their signature steak sandwich. The New Zealand onions (from Pukekohe) are boiled down for hours so it's naturally thickened (without the use of a thickener). Marmalata is the Italian word for jam or marmalade. This is a bold onion savory-sweet jam and it's amazing with cheeses or meats. Great as a pizza base or on a burger. Can be rolled into scrolls and home made breads. Quick Meal Idea: Peel and half 4 carrots and 4 parsnips. Toss veggies lightly in oil and roast until soft (about 30 minutes at 350F). Just before serving toss the vegetables with a tablespoon or two of Onion Balsamic Marmalata. Delicious! Quick Appetizer Idea: Place circles of frozen puff pastry in greased cupcake tins, cook until golden. Fill with feta cheese and onion balsamic marmalata.
