Our highest grade of Manuka Honey, independently tested to MG 820. Methylgloxal (MG) is the major antibacterial component in Manuka honey. The MG rating system measures how many milligrams of MG are present in 1 kilo of honey. So, MG 820 contains 820 mg of methylgloxal per kilo of honey which is the same amount of MG in UMF 20. The greater the amount of MG in the honey, the greater the level of anti-bacterial activity.
Unlike the antibacterial properties in other honeys, this special antibacterial component unique to Manuka honey does not die in heat and light - in plain English, the antibacterial component is still active in hot tea making this the perfect honey for tea - which is why we call it drinking honey.
