Growing up in New Zealand, many of us regularly enjoyed blackcurrant juice. We drank it because we loved it, but it also was giving us a good dose of vitamin C, one of nature's most powerful antioxidants. Blackcurrants contain about 5 times the vit. C of oranges.
Blackcurrants are also higher in anthocyanins than raspberries, cranberries and blueberries (the rich purple-red color in all these fruits). These antioxidants are thought to contribute to cell protection, reduction of tiredness and promote normal brain, blood and collagen function.
New Zealand blackcurrants are particularly potent. Grown in ideal climatic conditions and soil at the foot hills of New Zealand's Southern Alps.
Blackcurrant powder is really convenient to use. My favorite way to have it is just add a sachet into a smoothie, but it can be added to yogurt, muesli, oats and hot drinks.
